Welcome to my Sims 2 Blog!

This blog is to keep track of all my Sims 2 (TS2) stuffeths. I mostly "build" - houses, apartments, recreational, and community lots - but, I also create walls (and murals), floors, terrain paint, and various other recolors. And I've written a few tutorials too. 😁

All of my items are available through Mod the Sims - MTS2: CatherineTCJD.

Most of my stuff is also posted on Tumblr: A Peacock's Tale.

And I'm slowly adding things to Simblr: CatherineTCJD.

I also have an archive of everything I have made on SFS: CatherineTCJD.

Thank you for visiting!

The Great Wall Project: INside, OUTside, and Border Wall Overlay

Originally uploaded to MTS on Oct 29th, 2010; then updated Jan. 18th, 2014

Wallpaper Overlays in 3 Versions: INside, OUTside, and Borders/WallDecos

~This is a full height, 1-tile, transparent wall overlay with Maxis recolors.
~The Mesh is static; it has its own GUID.
~The polycount is: Faces = 2, Vertex = 4
~It is base game and EP compatible.
~It's cost is FREE [I mean, why pay for something EAxis kinda already gave us - right?]
~And, it can either be found in the Build/Architecture section, OR in the Deco/Misc section of your catalog - depending on which mesh you choose. If you don't have an "Architecture Tab" in your build catalog, then PLEASE use the mesh marked Deco/Misc!

>>>BE SURE TO USE ONE AND ONLY ONE MESH!<<<

These overlays are all de/re-constructed versions of EAxis walls from ALL of the combined EPs, SPs, and Lifestyle Bundle. They are base game compatible. You do not need said EP/SPs to use these in game. They are usable with ANY wallpaper/texture you choose. I've made them continuously placeable - useful when doing a whole room.

They work with windows and doors (etc.) - your sim will walk right through them like they aren't even there. The door will function exactly as it should. Pictures and other wall-hung decorations can still be used. One peculiar note: if you are using a 'full' wall overlay (like one of the panels) a door or window will not 'cut out' through the overlay. The sim will still walk/see through it. It may look a little funny to you when they walk right through the "solid" panel. Or, this could be an advantage... a secret passage maybe?

They are layer-able; so you can mix/match for maximum designerability with minimum catalog space usage. IE: With the Crown, Chair, and Kick series you can choose to use just one rail, two, or all three at the same time - you put them together the way you want them! (Why have 6 versions of the same wallpaper? Oi!) When overlapping layers you will need the "MoveObjects On" and "snapObjectsToGrid false" cheats. NOTE: the only way I could make diagonals work without stretching the texture, is by layering. This can be a bit finicky at times - especially with different camera angles - but keep fiddling with it and you'll soon get it right.

Below is a mash-up pix of some of the OUTside Wall Overlays. As you can see, in this example I've layered Industrial Crossbraces over Aqua Pool Tile, and put Empire/Clapboard edging on Pooltable Felt, Marble, painted cement, and much more... Now anything is possible!
Some of the walls shown are from my Maxis-Matching Walls: UNTRIMMED.

...Dang, now you can even put up a cozy Rooster border in your Loggy Bottom Paneled kitchen! With a pretty purple bow 'festoon'! Uh, huh.

The Border Edition Wall Overlay set includes 50 borders, 11 chair-rails, 6 bow festoons, 4 OFB full wall decorations, and 4 faux pillars. Whew!!!

Now, for me, the REAL beauty of these overlays is that my wall catalog is finally manageable. Which brings me to mention my nifty-gilifty Maxis Wall Hiders. (OCD? Who, me???) Don't forget your Hiders! With these Overlay Sets you no longer need the corresponding Maxis walls cluttering up your catalog do you? I sure don't! Everything is clearly marked in the Hider packages - and you can easily delete* the hider for any wall you really want to keep. Hider files are safe for any game configuration.

*To delete a wall's hider file, open the Hider.package with SimPE and find the name of the wall you want to keep. Right click it, choose 'delete' from the dropdown menu, SAVE. Done.

For this download, I have combined everything together in one zipped file. Inside the zipped file you will find 6 folders: 01_MESHes_BuildArchitect, 02_MESHes_DecoMisc, 03_HidersForOverlays, 04_BorderEdition, 05_INsideEdition, and 06_OUTsideEdition. Each folder has corresponding pictures/pngs, so you can clearly see what is included in each. Remember to choose only one of the MESH folders!

DOWNLOAD @ SFS

Installation: Everything can just get thrown into your Downloads folder - except for the one Hider file (for OUTside walls) that is clearly marked "..._PutInBINS."
However, if you're like me - I like to keep Maxis stuff back in the ProgramFiles as much as possible - and keeping these back in the BINs folder also eliminates the CC star. I have everything in a "GreatWallProject" folder inside my BINs folder - except for the one Hider file (for OUTside walls) that is clearly marked "...MG_PutInDOWNLOADS."

A special thank you and credit to Pixelhate and Numenor for the original mesh and permission to clone/change it. Credit to EAxis for all the textures. And credit to K8 at Parsimonious who's generous TOU let me tear apart some of her beautiful walls. Her "Royal Swag" and "Ballerina Bow" are used for the catalog thumbnail picture of the Border Edition mesh; and they are included in a Bonus Borders folder.

Recommendation: I highly recommend getting xmathyx/littlelittlesimmies Stair Overlay fix from MTS. It is slaved to my "Inside" overlay, and runs seamlessly along a staircase. YAY! She's also made corner and edge pieces on her tumblr!

And Corax on MTS just added shower-height recolors (May/6/2022.)
